Charlie Stottlemyer and Linton N. Tibbetts, O.B.E.
To Be Recognized By FBMA
A Past FBMA Chairman of the Board, Charlie Stottlemyer co-owned and operated Stottlemyer and Shoemaker in Sarasota, Florida,
from 1954 to 1988. Over the years, what began as a small family operation grew to encompass 250 employees
and three locations on Florida’s west coast, including Sarasota’s first truss and pre-hung door plants.
With 28 million in sales in 1988, Stottlemyer and Shoemaker sold its operation to Mayer International, the largest
building supply company in the U.K. Charlie continued working with Mayer until 1989 when he retired.
Linton
Tibbetts’ success was made possible from a $1,500 investment he made in 1949 that secured a portion of Cox Lumber, eventually
leading to sole ownership of over 24 Florida locations and a division in the Cayman islands. In 2003, Linton received the
title O.B.E. from Queen Elizabeth and is recognized as the Most Successful Businessman Ever in the Cayman islands.
In 2006, Linton sold his Florida locations to Home Depot and maintained his Cayman islands operation. In
November 2009, Linton reentered the Florida market and celebrated 60 years in the building supply industry
with the newly formed Tibbetts Lumber Co., LLC in St. Petersburg and Land O’Lakes, Florida; former locations of Cox
Lumber and Supply Company. Linton and his family hope to grow Tibbetts Lumber Co., LLC as the Florida
market returns with potential properties owned throughout Florida. Both Charlie and Linton will be recognized at FBMA’s Old Timer’s Recognition Luncheon on September 23,
2010, from 11:40 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A favorite event amongst convention and trade show attendees, the 2009
luncheon was sold out. Past award recipients include: Rodney Potter, ProBuild; Teeny
Johnston, (retired from Huttig Building Products); John Riley, ProBuild; Les Godwin, Builders Hardware and Dudley Collins,
ProBuild. These individuals have dedicated their lives to working in the industry and their service has
extended from 30 - 70 years!
